FOREVER CHEMICALS
It was a bit spooky to read during the week the level of contamination of “forever chemicals” in many of Australian drinking water sources. It is hard to understand how some of these chemicals have entered the water ways of places such as Lorne which was quite high by Australian standards. Maybe firefighting foams (one of the more common uses of PFAS synthetic chemicals.
Fifty percent of samples taken across Australia contained detectable levels of PFAS and some were significantly higher than acceptable levels in the US and Canada. Australia has a high allowance compared to most western economies. Sounds as though this needs to be reviewed.
Filtration is an option to reduce PFAS in water sources. Carbon filters from Puretec can reduce forever chemicals although it may be worthwhile considering a reverse osmosis system (there are some under-sink options) that reduce a wide range of contaminants.
Sometimes it may be better to have a combination of filter systems. It is certainly recommended to talk to the team at WSS about options for filtration and what would be the best and cheapest system for your circumstances.
Kind regards, Jack
